Time Machine Menu Bar Add-On

Did anyone notice the Time Machine Menu Extra?
(It was included in Developer Seeds until 9A499 at least.)

Unfortunately, Apple removed it from the retail version.

Like every other menu extra, "TimeMachine.menu" was located inside "/System/Library/Core Services/Menu Extras"

It still works, and I think it's quite more useful than just the Time Machine Dock icon.

Thanks to cmaus@mac.com @ InsanelyMac for the tip!

I downloaded the file, placed it in the correct directory, then double-clicked on it and nothing happened. I tried restarting and doing it again but that did not work. Is there something I am missing?

I placed the file TimeMachine.menu in ~/System/Library/Core Services/Menu Extras/ where the other .menu file are located and then double-clicked on it and nothing happened. Is there something else I am supposed to do. I noticed that people on Digg were having the same problem I am.

just open it with "show package contents" then you will see TimeMachine.menu again. Copy THIS into
/System/Library/Core Services/Menu Extras/ and then double click..

Time Travel is something that will never occur...If time travel ever was invented it would have to eventually fall into the wrong hands at some point in time in the future which would result in it being misused IE someone going back to the 1900's or 1800's to make changes and bring the technolgy back..Since we know thier is no technology like that then their can never have been an invention of a TIME MACHINE....WE WOULD ALREADY KNOW ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT WOULD BE SENT BACK IN TIME TO US SO IT WOULD BE A FACT ALREADY...IN THE PAST"

After you copy TimeMachine.menu to the System dir, be sure to chown it root:wheel. The first time I tried, the bundle was owned by my user account and thus did not work

@beasy

There is a theory that any Time Machine could not be sent back in Time before its own invention. Maybe that's why we haven't seen one yet.

Great, thanks for posting this. I really like how in the menu bar it shows the date and time of the last backup. This is a good tool for people like me who use a laptop (not always connected to external HDD), and do our Time Machine backups manually.

Since icons in the dock use valuable real estate, this is a great alternative. And i hear they'll be including it with OS 10.5.2
